How do I set up own domain name for my account (online store)?

By default the storefront of online service WebAsyst Store is available at a URL of the form http://ACCOUNTNAME.webasyst.net/shop/. If you want it to be accessible at your own domain name, you need to switch to one of the WebAsyst paid pricing plans and register a domain name.

Register a domain name from within your WebAsyst account

If you have no domain name, go to section "Account -> My Domains" and register a domain name. No further setup or payment for web hosting or DNS servers is required in this case. Your online store will become available at the new domain name after the DNS records update, which takes from several minutes to several hours.

Use the following URLs to access your online store storefront and backend:

http://domain.com/ — storefront
http://domain.com/shop/ — storefront (alternative URL)
http://domain.com/login/ — WebAsyst user account (administrative backend)
http://domain.com/webasyst/ — WebAsyst user account (alternative URL of the administrative backend)

Note: If you register a domain name via a WebAsyst account, your storefront automatically becomes accessible at the www. subdomain, i.e. both at domain.com and at www.domain.com.

If you already have a registered domain name

In this case you need to specify valid DNS server addresses for your domain name using one of the following options:

  1. Rent DNS servers; e.g., those of your domain name registrar or any other provider. Then enter the DNS server addresses in the DNS settings of your domain name (in fields "Name" and "IP address"). Once this has been done, save IP address 178.33.57.202 as an A record for the domain name using the control panel of your DNS server hosting provider.
  2. Purchase virtual hosting service. Any web-hosting provider offers own DNS servers for his customers. (As a rule, this option is more expensive, but, in addition to DNS servers, you can also use disc space for other web applications; e.g., a blog or a forum.) Then enter the addresses of the web-hosting provider's DNS servers in the DNS settings of your domain name (in fields "Name" and "IP address"). Once this has been done, save IP address 178.33.57.202 as an A record for your domain name using the control panel of your web-hosting provider.

Tip: To make your online storefront available both on the main domain name (e.g., domain.com) and on the www. subdomain (e.g., www.domain.com), choose any of the setting options listed below:

  • specify the main domain name (e.g., domain.com) as the CNAME value for the www. subdomain (www.domain.com);
  • specify IP address 178.33.57.202 in the A record of the www. subdomain (www.domain.com).

When the IP address has been changed, enter the domain name into the address bar of your browser. This should open your WebAsyst account login page as shown in the picture below:

Should the login page not open, then the IP address of your domain name might not have been updated correctly. You can check it at http://all-nettools.com/toolbox/smart-whois.php.

Final setup

If the IP address has been changed correctly, email us a written request to have the final setup performed so that the storefront becomes available at a new domain name. Be sure to include your domain name and the online account name in your email request. Such final setup is performed by WebAsyst staff free of charge.

Use of the new domain name

After you have set up own domain name for your online store, it is advisable to use the following URL to log in to your administrative backend: http://domain.com/login/, where domain.com is the 2nd level domain name connected with your online account. Further use of the standard 3rd level domain name of the form ACCOUNT_NAME.webasyst.net may cause unexpected operation of several modules such "Sitemaps" where incorrect URLs may be included in the generated file.
